Reading

At St. Gregory’s, we deliver an enriching and challenging English curriculum, enabling every pupil to know more, remember and understand more. Our high-quality education in English teaches pupils to speak, read and write fluently so that they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others and through their reading and listening, others can communicate with them. Through reading in particular, pupils have a chance to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually. Literature, especially, plays a key role in such development; allowing pupils to build in their skills of oracy with enthusiasm and interest. Reading also enables pupils both to acquire knowledge and to build on what they already know. Our reading curriculum plays an important part in safeguarding pupils through the study of key themes found within our texts, for example, a transition text explored in Year Six in preparation for Key Stage Three.
